EDUCATION IN NIGERIA IS A POLITICAL GIMMICK 2
- What do we understand with the state of emergence in education in Nigeria state?
- What concrete plans has the government put in place to convince the people that is serious?
- Does state government construct more classes to accommodate the multitude of children that are now standing without any chair to sit on?
- Or has the necessary learning materials been provided to ensure a full take off the programme?
How do we talk of the quality of education when the quality of the teachers is a shamble? In this country, the qualification of a primary school teacher should be NCE while that of secondary teacher should be Degree but in the actual sense you cannot see it on the ground if you go round the primary and secondary schools in the most states in the country.
We have unemployed NCE holders roaming the streets of this country doing nothing but we have teachers in abundance who cannot prove how they attend school and they are teachers in both primary and secondary schools throughout Nigeria
Government must come out clearly with plans of ensuring a concrete foundation at all levels of education in the country. It must be seen in every nook and cranny of Nigeria, people must see it happening. The government should decide how the state and federal governments can come in, in the education of young Nigeria because the resources are there but the only thing that is essential is that this level of corruption and criminal waste of resources must stop, nobody should steal public funds and get away with it.
During the years of 1966 before the military came in, nobody could take a kobo of public fund and get away with it no matter who he or she was, but today that is not the case; story has change; you can steal any amount and get away with it provided if you are the favourite of the governor or the president. So how can we in this circumstance run free basic education in such an environment successfully?
We can achieve this, and to be able to do that, corruption must be curbed. In fact, to change the negative attitude of Nigerians to a positive status, we have to deal with the level of corruption and criminal waste of resources, because that is the root of our problem.
If the political leadership is based on self-interest first, public interest second or even incidental, how can there be desired change the present government is clamouring for? We have to turn to public interest first and self-interest second then resources will be used properly to the interest of all Nigerians.
