SHERIFF THREATENS INEC OVER PDP FLAG BEARER

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), yesterday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), to recognize Mathew Iduoriyekwemwen as the party’s candidate for the September 10 Edo State governorship election or “face the music at the end of the day.”

Member representing Egor/Kpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma who submitted a letter on behalf of Sheriff to the commission, explaining why Iduoriyekwemwen should be recognition, declined to be specific on the kind of “music” INEC would face if it does not recognize him.

Addressing newsmen at the INEC premises, the lawmaker said the commission’s decision to publish the name of Pastor OsagieIze-Iyamu who emerged from a primary election conducted by the PDP National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi as PDP candidate for the election was illegal.

“Today, Hon Iduoriyekwemwen is the rightful candidate. So there is nothing more to say about this than for INEC to be on the side of the law, obey the law of the land. Anybody that refuses to obey the law of the land will face the music at the end of the day,” he said.
