I PLEDGE TO NIGERIA MY COUNTRY

This is fast becoming one of those verses one can stumble over in a fairy tale or children's poem. A verse apt for one of the songs of moonlight plays. This comes with it's tonnes of disappointment, disturbance and above all; pains. Nigeria on the precipice! Nigeria fading into yesterday, one of the idioms of Ndi Igbo cautioned that he who laughs at the rot of his father's yam barn, laughs at his stomach, that is why one is disturbed; I mean the source of pains.

We are all Nigeria taking chronicles of event in the nation. The various mass killings of the Southerners in the Northern part of Nigeria, almost on yearly basis the least provocation or excuses. We all known that the perpetrators are not punished or arraigned before any court of law. Yet this is our nation where as provided by our grand norms; the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria as amended, chapter 1:1 (2) which holds among other things that; The federal republic of Nigeria shall be governed, nor shall any person, group of persons take control of the government of Nigeria or any part thereof, except in accordance with the provision of this constitution.

  • Do events today in Nigeria not reduce this to ridicule?
  • Does it not sound stupid to still have this section as part of the constitution of Nigeria, in the face of the prevailing fragrant abuses?
These questions are pertinent in the view of the events below;

"The killing of the celebrated Akpo "6" (six) and the way it was handled has remained an ulcer on the polity refusing to heal".

"The death of Gideon Akulaka whose head was chopped off and supported on the stake and taken round Kano will never and can never be assuaged".

"What other hatred can be illustrated by Muslims in Nigeria than killing of a pregnant woman, slitting open the womb and bring out the foetus and killing the same, all in the name of Allah".

"Late Mrs Eunice Olawale, who was murdered by Muslims fanatics, her throat was slit, with her head rested on the bible she used for preaching".

"Mr. Francis Emmanuel, was attacked and deeply cut with cutlass, scissors, knife in Kakuri area of Kaduna metropolis by some Muslim boys for not fasting".

All these happened in the Northern Nigeria against the same people, in a country supposedly that of the victims. It does not occur to the actors or their financier that the victims have relatives or siblings or that history is recording the events nor do they think that these dastard wicked acts have their repercussions. This author is worried not because of the high death rates of  a particle people at the hands of the "born to rule"but the stupid numb silence of the constituted authority over the heinous acts against humanity. The silence and inaction of the police and soldiers favour the wicked perpetrators and this has been fueling the acts the more.

Chief Olu Falae, an elderly statesman was abducted in his farm. His sins were that he appeared to have money and some members of supper class;some Fulanis needed money to celebrate salah. So he had to be kidnapped for his ransom intended for the salah"Miliki". The Yoruba elders and chiefs found this a slap on their faces, they sounded a warning and proposed to flush out the Fulanis from their enclave. Much to the surprise of all, Kwankwaso, a Fulani, the erstwhile governor of Kano state asked them to shut up. This is situation in which we are, an era of Fulani bravado, simply intended to cow taw the Yoruba and encourage the Fulani, the impressed Fulani struck again, this time, Falae's security, Ayodele Ige was murded for being faithful to his duty and Odua Peoples'Congress (OPC) is fuming.

From the whole of North central Nasarawa, Jos, Kogi, Benue to Edo, Delta and entire former Eastern region, the fulanis are freely rampaging everywhere with AK47 killing, raping women, razing houses unrestrained. The weak mind sees in this the Fulani exploiting the presence of Mr President who himself is from the same stock to intimidate, displace the rest of us and take up our lands. This fear is strengthened by the Agatu progrom. The late and reluctant action of the government did not help matters, yet the public is eagerly waiting to hear from president, the patron of the Fulani cattle rearers on episode of Agatu massacre'

These are people who were murdered and displaced from their natural home land and one questions the rationale behind such an affront on a people in a country that has openly embraced the tenets of democracy no matter how weak. The shame and ridicule being heaped on Nigeria by the so called leaders is becoming unbearable. The Governor of Kaduna state came out with fact that those who killed the shiites were not Nigerians, WISE TALK ISN'T IT?

This shows shows how hollow our so called leaders are. Rufai forgets that we sublet our power to protect ourselves from internal and foreign foes. What a naivety? We at the same time pay taxes to ensure this is roundly and effectively done. Mallam Nasir el Rufai can as well take his hollow speech to the marines. That is reason why I published article titled LET US REASON TOGETHER where is explained solution to the above problems.
