IPOB'S SPLIT: A FARCE OR REALITY
…We heard of split group of Niger Delta Avengers
…. Now we are hearing split group of IPOB
…..Soon we will hear split group of Boko Haram.
Individual, groups and corporate entities have needs to be met. When these needs are ignored or confused as being the same as desires and/or demands, there is bound to be conflicts.
On 5th August 2016 self-acclaimed faction of Niger Delta Avengers, known as Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA), whose aims and objectives are to expose Niger Delta Avengers, there sponsors, and accept dialogue with Nigerian government.
Meanwhile Niger Delta Avengers claimed to be victimized by the government and exploited of their own resources without compensating them. These people have become victims of circumstances and in response, they are forced to take what belong to them, even to the detriment of government and themselves as well. This conflict has led to the destruction of properties, pipeline vandalization, and slow and poor development of the area and death of many.
- Has the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, achieved their aims and objectives?
- Has the aims and objective decrease the problems or increase the solution to the problem?
- Has the aims and objective stop the agitation of Niger Deltians?
Nigeria is a pluralized state with different kinds of conflicting cultural interests, values and preferences. This is a situation whereby a person or a group feels wrongly treated and their rights violated by another person, group or authority. Nigeria is turning to be a country where fundamental human rights are not upheld, and justice denied.
On 25th August 2016 being 20 days of self-claimed split group of Niger Delta Avengers, another self-acclaimed faction of Indigenous People of Biafra, known as The Re-branded Indigenous People of Biafra (TRIOPOB), emerged with sole aims of;
- Not to actualize Biafra
- Burning of Biafra flag on 1, October 2016
- Recite Nigeria national anthem and pledge.
How those aims and objectives could makes impact on peace and conflict resolution or stop the agitation of Biafra, one would wonder.
IPOB being a secessionist movement for the sovereignty of the defunct Republic of Biafra, believed that they are pained by the continued neglect of their own part of the country. The eastern part of the country has been constantly denied their appropriate place in governance and government of Nigeria by the succeeding governments of the country.
There is no federal presence in the Igbo land. The eastern part have been deprived opportunities, denied their rights in the country, and the young men growing up can no longer put up with this calculated destruction, maltreatment or enslavement of their own part of the country. And so they say, if we cannot be part of this, let us get out of this country. There is nothing to show that the federal government of Nigeria regard eastern as full part of the country. This is the situation, IPOB say we can no longer tolerate the situation.
People who are agitating for Biafra, are in a democratic system as guaranteed by the constitution of the country; to hold whatever view they want to hold, provided that they don’t introduce violence, provided that they don’t do anything that will hamper peace and security in the country. And when they argue or when they protest against the evils that they claim is being emitted to their own part of the country, it has to be within the ambit of the law.
Propaganda, sabotage, killing or unlawful arrest is not the best solution, what I would suggest is dialogue, listen to them, call them, discuss with them and find out really if they have a case and a solution to their case.
