WE WILL PROSECUTE PURVEYORS OF FAKE NEWS - FG VOWS
Information and Culture Minister Alhaji Lai Mohammed said in a statement in Abuja that behind false news aimed at destabilizing political disunity and causing various ethnic and religious groups in the country.
The statement was signed by Mr Segun Adeyemi, the Minister's Special Adviser.
He urged the Nigerian minister to be more vigilant in the light of the situation, exacerbating false news circulated by unscrupulous people. Mohammed said that only the weekend, there are some important issues false information, each of which is capable of causing panic and chaos and stir group set against the other.
He said in a video of a bloody explosion occurred a few years ago was broadcast on a mock bomb in Abuja, while the news of a bomb explosion is widely reported in Lagos. He said, however, that the police had decoded the false news.
Mohammed said the latest strategy used by the supplier provided false information about the official unreliable data capable of destabilizing the political situation, causing tension and threatening the unity of the country.
That is why we call on Nigerians not to participate in a quick response to new information and to provide serious testing for the control of the security services and government spokesman - he said.
He described the phenomenon of false news as "the scourge of our time," noting that "is likely to get worse in the coming months" So all Nigerians have been asked to be vigilant to stop false news that consumers are trying to sow chaos and confusion.
It also requested that the traditional media, which enjoy a good reputation to protect, to join the campaign against false news providers.
