80-YEAR-OLD MAN BURNT TO DEATH


The fire incident that happened at No. 5, Aborishade close, Lawanson, Surulere, at about 10:40am today, sent an 80 years, Godwin Oyia untimely death. The fire break out from the last floor believed to occurred as a result from water heater (boiling ring).

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), their Agency's emergency response team carried preliminary investigation which revealed that Godwin Oyia, was burnt to death in the room where the fire started. The initial cause of the fire was an immersion water heater (boiling ring) being used at the last room of the top floor, which resulted to breakout of fire that engulfed the whole building.

While the top floor of the building was completely blazed down, the dawn floor was rescued by the efforts of LASEMA, Red cross, the Lagos State Fire Service and Itire division of the Police Force.

The dead body was recovered and handed over to the Police.

General Manager LASEMA, Mr. Michael Akindele, said; "we will conduct a proper investigation on the incident"

"He also advised Lagosians to ensure safety by switching off all electrical appliances when not in use at home or in the office."
