KIRIKIRI PRISON OVERCROWDED BY 1,853 PRISONERS
An appeal was sent yesterday to the relevant authorities and to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led by the Lagos State Government to help decongest the overcrowded Kirikiri prison in Apapa, Lagos.
Appeal was made during prison de-congestion initiative commemorating the 55th anniversary of the leader of House of representative, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, prison Deputy comptroller and chief, medium security prison, Kirikiri, Apapa, Olawanyi Emmanuel , While the prison capacity is 1,700, there are currently 3,553 inmates.
Gbajabiamila, as part of its anniversary activities and the celebration of Sallah, facilitated the release of 40 selected detainees from the Kirikiri medium security prison with various charges.
In congratulating the legislature, Emmanuel added that prisoners and the entire prison environment need the attention of the government
